SUPPORT YOUR LEGION

Dear Comrades,

From time to time the Branch Executive believes it is important to share information with members about how Legion branches operate. Many members are surprised to learn how the financial structure of the Legion works at the branch level.

From the $65 annual membership fee, Branch 256 retains less than $18. The remainder supports the work of the Legion at the Zone, Provincial, and Dominion levels.

Poppy Campaign funds are dedicated entirely to the important task of supporting veterans and their families, providing assistance where it is needed most.  These funds are held in trust and are not used for Branch operations.

Similarly, gaming revenues such as meat draws and raffles serve an important purpose in our community. The majority of these funds are distributed to support local organizations and initiatives.

Like many Legion branches across Canada, the day-to-day operation of the Branch — including maintaining our building and supporting programs for members and veterans — relies largely on member participation and support.

To support the long-term stewardship of Branch 256, the Executive has introduced the Branch 256 Stewardship Contribution.

This voluntary program allows members who wish to make a contribution toward the operational stewardship of our Branch. It evolved from the earlier $11.11 Contribution, which was inspired by the symbolic amount reflecting the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month — a reminder that remembrance is part of everything we do at the Legion.

Many members have already chosen to participate in the Branch 256 Stewardship Contribution.  All contributions remain at Branch 256 and help support the ongoing operation of our building, programs, and services for members, veterans, and the community.
