🏅 Wayne Stuart, 2025 Legionnaire of the Year
Treasurer – Branch 256
For 49 years, Wayne Stuart has lived the values of the Royal Canadian Legion, including 40 years of dedicated service to Branch 256 in Nanaimo. Born in Comox, British Columbia, Wayne grew up as the son of a Royal Canadian Air Force member, living around the world before settling in Nanaimo in 1979. That early exposure to service, community, and country shaped the steady, grounded leadership he brings to our Branch today.
Financial Leadership with Clarity and Vision
For the past five years, Wayne has faithfully served as Treasurer — a role that demands precision, patience, and integrity. Under his stewardship, the financial position of Branch 256 has been presented to the membership with clarity and transparency. Wayne has ensured that our members not only see the numbers, but understand them — including thoughtful forecasts for future building costs, capital investments, and long-term sustainability.
Guiding Major Projects
In 2025, Wayne played a pivotal role in one of the most significant infrastructure projects our Branch has undertaken in recent years: the complete renovation of our men’s and women’s washrooms. Through countless permit processes, contractor coordination, City of Nanaimo approvals, and unexpected delays, Wayne worked tirelessly behind the scenes to see the project through to completion — ensuring our facilities reflect the pride we hold in our Branch.
Service Beyond the Ledger
Beyond his financial leadership, Wayne serves as our appointed Conflict Resolution Officer — a role requiring fairness, discretion, and steady judgment. He has also been instrumental in the hiring of our Branch chef and the development of our new kitchen menu, contributing to the revitalization of our food services and member experience.
Wayne Stuart is an integral part of Branch 256. His leadership is quiet but unwavering, his dedication constant, and his commitment to the well-being and future of our Branch unmistakable.
